Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) is a term that refers to the academic disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The term is typically used when addressing education policy and curriculum choices in schools to improve competitiveness in science and technology development. It has implications for workforce development, national security concerns and immigration policy. STEM designated-degree programs that qualify eligible graduates  on student visas for an optional practical training (OPT) extension. Under the OPT program, international students who graduate from colleges and universities in the United States are able to remain in the country and receive training through work experience for up to 12 months. Students who graduate from a designated STEM degree program can remain for an additional 24 months on an OPT STEM extension making it to a total of 36 months. The SAT, acronym of Scholastic Aptitude Test, is owned and conducted by the College Board. This test is widely taken by freshmen seeking college admission in the United States. It is a 3 hour 50 minute exam consisting of 3 sections: Critical Reading, Mathematics, and Writing, scored on a scale from 400 to 1600.The Reading and Writing sections are clubbed into a single section named ‘Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW)’. Evidence-Based Reading Test lasts 65 minutes and i s comprised of 4 individual passages and 1 pair of passages. The Writing section consists of 4 passages and lasts for 35 minutes. The entire ‘EBRW’ section is scored in the range of 200-800. The Mathematics test includes two sections and a total of 58 questions. The first section is a no-calculator section, with 20 questions to be completed within 25 minutes. The second section consists of 38 questions with a time limit of 55 minutes. This section is also scored in the range of 200 to 800.The Essay is option
